Smile, it's painless!
My lates poem
I started writing this poem after hurricane Charlie tore through our area in August 2004. I watched the long lines of trucks, saw them filling parking lots and vacant fields and I cried. We needed their help so much. I got busy with clean up and I'd forgotten about the poem until I found it today when I was straightening some shelves in my office. I'm not sure if it's finished, yet, but here it is.
The Trucks are Coming
heading south to help us
the trucks come rolling in
from the country over
causing a mighty din
hauling water, food and ice
shingles, boards and nails
everything that we need
and some are bringing pails
other trucks are coming
bringing crews from everywhere
they come because we need them
they come because they care
we can never thank them
words just aren’t enough
someday they may need us
then I will drive the truck
