Cop at the door
Our doorbell rang tonight and as Hubby put some clothes on (we were ready for bed) I peeked out the window and saw a man who flashed a badge. Why were the police at my house? Last I knew, it wasn't illegal to get ready for bed.

It turns out that the house across the street was broken into today and the people had just arrived home and found a window smashed and several things missing. We went over and talked to them, a very nice young couple with 2 children that we hadn't met yet.

They've only been there 5 weeks and I had a dejavu experience. It was 6 weeks after we moved into our new house (this one) when we were broken into and robbed. Since then we've had 1 more robbery and several attempts, in spite of having a monitored alarm system. Once when I was home a man tried to open my front door, he just ignored the alarm blaring over his head. I went to the bedroom, picked up my Winchester pump action rifle and tapped on the living room window with the barrel. When he looked up, I cocked the rifle, pointed it right at him and asked, "May I help you?" I have never seen anybody move that fast in my life! Honestly, I think Scotty "beamed him up" he diappeared so quickly. He cleared our 4 foot chain link fence without even touching it. Then I sat down and cried, shook, called Gene and waited for the cops to arrive. It took them 10 minutes.

Our best friend is a Deputy Sheriff, my grandfather was chief of police and I have a couple cousins and many other friends who are police officers, too. I have a great respect for the men and women in law enforcement who put their lives on the line for us every day. Sure, they're not perfect, they're human and make mistakes sometimes. But, when I need help the uniform is a comfort and, yes, so is the gun.
